The Works.
It got here way sooner than expected, certainly sooner than the freaking Civil Twilight CD I ordered from One October Records (ordered on July 15th. I bet those bastards forgot about me.). It even got here sooner than the post I wrote introducing my love of Jonatha Brooke, which is scheduled to post tomorrow.
I mean, I ordered The Works the same day I wrote that post. And it got here already.
I guess I’ll just have to schedule this post as well. lol
The 2nd copy is going to go to Lara, since it was just her birthday. I have yet to listen to this CD — there is a stack of CDs on my desk as I type, all waiting to be listened to — but I’m going to wait for the right time. I hope it’s good. Go Bob Clearmountain.

Events..
I texted Lauren today and she informed me for this blog…I am known the one and only House Head of the site. I said that she could refer to me as the ex-Etard, she called me silly. Anyway its been awhile since I wrote anything so I figured it was time to do an entry.
Despite all of the amazing DJ’s I have been able to see live, there are a few events that I still want to attend. WMC (Winter Music Conference) which is held in South Beach every year. I don’t know if it is for the vast collection of top rated DJ’s or the fact its South Beach Oh and going to Ibiza for a few weeks would be next on my list. Hot girls + house music + dancing till the sun comes up = oops, not an option for me anymore. Damn sobriety! For those of you have the money and can drink from sunset to sunrise for 7 days straight…check out WMC or Ibiza.
Since WMC & Ibiza are basically never going to happen now that I am sober, I would absolutely love to see Tiesto, Desyn Masiello, Deep Dish or Sasha. I just missed out on seeing Tiesto in Vegas, crap Sin City is not an option for me either. I guess I’ll have to wait for them to have an event in California. When that happens I’ll be there!
Karaoke Review 08-24
I added some new songs today, notables being Alanis’ “Mary Jane,” which was published on Helluvadisc, Lauren Christy’s “Color of the Night” from that crazy Bruce Willis/Jane March movie, & Gavin Rossdale’s “Love Remains The Same.” With the Rossdale song also came Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl,” which I apologized to my boss for adding.
“I don’t mind that song,” he said.
“You will after the thousandth time you hear someone try to sing it in here,” I replied.

What About Me
Does anyone remember this? It’s so quintessential 80s and yet someone really dropped the ball on this video.

Jonatha Brooke
It’s probably time for me to mention Jonatha Brooke. Being as nitpicky as I am, I have a favorite band (Jane’s Addiction) but also a favorite artist. I know, I’m a cheater. Sorry.
College days, early 90s. I spent days writing songs, playing guitar, & arranging harmonies with a talented girlfriend who, being gay, introduced me to a world of what is often considered “lesbian” music: Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, KD Lang, Marianne Faithful. I first heard of what was then described to me as a “pair of dykes” called The Story & borrowed my friend’s copy of Grace In Gravity for 3 years (heh), putting track #3 on continuous play.
In 1996 I heard a single called “Nothing Sacred” one day on the radio & I obtained a copy of Plumb, which, beyond the haunting 1st track, brought tears to my eyes in “Inconsolable” & scraped at the pathetic dregs at the bottom of my heart in “No Better.” I couldn’t believe the clear, vulnerable poignancy this woman’s voice. This woman happened to be Jonatha Brooke, one of the 2 dykes, who was now married to her keyboardist.
Ok, so maybe it was just the haircut.

Karaoke Review 08-17
Too much Barenjager was consumed from the start of my shift, & I did sing a buttload of songs, but the only memorable one (I think; others might come to me later) was “Mother” by Danzig. A group of what I’d guess are some of the weekend singers came in at the end of the night, no doubt to “rock,” & although they paid their dollar to sing Danzig, it turned out none of them knew how it went. So, bolstered by a few others — Pacman, Mele — to make it right again, I committed an etiquette crime: I sang their song again.
Sure, that’s rude. Chances are, weekend crew wouldn’t know that, but I stopped by their table anyway just to let them know that I was going to sing their song again, as a courtesy. My drunken rendition of Glenn Danzig, after which I even (God, I’m so silly) added a line from “Blood & Tears,” impressed even me, & the weekend dudes were yelling just as loudly as the other Danzig fans.
That’s really all I have to report.

Daisy de la Hoya
I think she could be the next Tila Tequila. Initially I was hating on her because she’s dating Dave Navarro, but then I went to her MySpace (stalker-like; yeah I can do it!) & listened to her music — it took awhile because you can only access the “back” control on the MySpace player since she’s got some kind of ad blocking it — but after listening to her sexy screaming/rapping & seeing her great modeling work I think she has the talent to run with the likes of Ms. Nguyen!!
God help us.
As I watched Tila Tequila rise to stardom I was impressed with her utter daring. She produced such unequivocal trash but promoted it with unparalleled style, magnetism, &, basically, force. She used her looks & her brains & she earned herself the 21st century title of Rock Star, where “to rock” no longer refers to music, but… to “rocking.” Tons of people bought her CDs & they probably still haven’t listened to any of her songs. She’s a fricking genius.
Unlike Tila though, Daisy is just real. She’s so beautiful but her true, imbecilic self just shines through. All over the web she’s being called a whore or a slut, & it’s all because there are publicly viewed recordings of her talking. Well, & then there’s the picture with the chopped pile of flour. She’s just, like, so genuine.
Someone’s got to destroy those videos. Come on Bret.

Let’s talk a little bit about singing
Since Lauren has been bugging me about actually putting a post up here, I thought I’d actually take some time and put something up here. Lauren must really be trying hard since she’s sent me things hoping to spark some sort of creative initiative on my part. That being said, I’m not sure where this is going, but hopefully this makes sense since I’m doing this while putting in my requisite 3.5 hr session on Full Tilt.
I’ve been thinking a lot about singing recently. For those of you who don’t know me, I grace Lauren’s bar from time to time when I’m in town, and will usually sing a song or two if I’m there. Well, I intend to sing a song or two, but that normally degenerates to Lauren just putting songs in to sing if it’s slow. Not that I mind, but it will normally involve at least one or two songs that I don’t know.
Here’s the strange thing. For someone who enjoys singing and music as much as I do, I’ve recently realized that I don’t know a whole lot of music. I think this stems from a habit I have of normally listening to things that I have to learn to sing or things that are in my vocal range. I do listen to other things, but the majority would fall into the first category.
No, not the song by
