Scott Weiland. Dave Navarro. Too much hotness.

Daisy de la Hoya
I think she could be the next Tila Tequila. Initially I was hating on her because she’s dating Dave Navarro, but then I went to her MySpace (stalker-like; yeah I can do it!) & listened to her music — it took awhile because you can only access the “back” control on the MySpace player since she’s got some kind of ad blocking it — but after listening to her sexy screaming/rapping & seeing her great modeling work I think she has the talent to run with the likes of Ms. Nguyen!!
God help us.
As I watched Tila Tequila rise to stardom I was impressed with her utter daring. She produced such unequivocal trash but promoted it with unparalleled style, magnetism, &, basically, force. She used her looks & her brains & she earned herself the 21st century title of Rock Star, where “to rock” no longer refers to music, but… to “rocking.” Tons of people bought her CDs & they probably still haven’t listened to any of her songs. She’s a fricking genius.
Unlike Tila though, Daisy is just real. She’s so beautiful but her true, imbecilic self just shines through. All over the web she’s being called a whore or a slut, & it’s all because there are publicly viewed recordings of her talking. Well, & then there’s the picture with the chopped pile of flour. She’s just, like, so genuine.
Someone’s got to destroy those videos. Come on Bret.

Trust No One
Ok, so I worship (20th century) Jane’s Addiction. Dave Navarro, in addition to convincing me that pierced nipples on men can be hot (whereas Janet Jackson has convinced me otherwise for women), has recorded what are probably my favorite guitar solos & riffs, evar. I’m not saying he’s the best guitarist in the world.
He definitely might be the hottest guitarist in the world. But anyway.
The Panic Channel was good, but not godly. I had known vaguely that Mr. Electra had put out a solo album all the way back in 2001. Closer to Jane’s Addiction, certainly, than The Panic Channel.
Of course, even closer than Jane’s Addiction was work with Michelle Branch & Christina Aguilera, & a guest appearance on Charmed. I didn’t know this. I ordered the CD.

The Panic Channel.

Disclaimer: When I wrote this, the only Nickelback albums I knew were The State & Silver Side Up; I hadn’t realized Chad Kroeger had become the industry icon of sellout redundancy yet, & therefore referentially a rather strong insult. My bad!
When I was in 7th grade my favorite band was Duran Duran (for the record, I hated Menudo). In 10th grade my favorite band was Ratt, & I had every cassette they had published. The first CD I bought was Staring At The Sea. But probably my favorite band & album of all my 37 years of music dependency is Jane’ Addiction, & Nothing’s Shocking. Perry Farrell’s genius & eerie voice, Stephen Perkins’ exotic percussion, & Eric A.’s aggressive bass & Dave Navarro’s lyrical guitar were —are— perfection to me.
When JA broke up in 1991, I wasn’t sad. It just seemed right. I couldn’t even imagine what else they could possibly do after Nothing’s Shocking & Ritual de lo Habitual. My friends thought it heresy, but I didn’t mourn.
They were already perfect. Nothing more could be done.
