The Happy Phantom
One fine day in the early 90s I was browsing music in Jelly’s when my dear friend Silke produced Tori Amos’ Crucify EP, recommending I buy it & vowing that she would buy it from me if I decided I didn’t like it.
I had never heard of Tori Amos but I trusted Silke, so I bought it. The Crucify EP is basically 2 of her originals, “Crucify” & “Winter,” which had just been published on Little Earthquakes, & 3 piano-accompanied covers of the Stones’ “Angie,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” & Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You.”
Within days I became a lifelong Tori Amos fan. I purchased Little Earthquakes & fell further in love. I won’t bore you with the rest, which, as they say, is history.
